“A challenging and entertaining educational journey that tackles the most important and improves our personal skills, that’s what I found in Al Fakhoora Debates. The audience of the first organized Youth Debates in Gaza has exceeded 100 people.” – Ahlam Abu Salah, an Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures Scholar

The conference aimed at inspiring youth and providing practical examples of dialogue to bridge conflicting positions and to enhance students’ engagement in extracurricular activities. Three students represented Al Fakhoora in debating with three students from University of Palestine on the necessity of cultural dialogue in social, community, family and peers’ context. Vibrant and challenging discussions took place showing a new model of debate approach where each group of students brought a strong basis for their ideas. Ahlam, fifth year student at the Pharmacy College in Al Azhar University in Gaza expressed “this is an interesting debate. The strong knowledge on the provided topics opened a new dimension of discussion and enhanced my confidence, and most importantly my team work skill while I worked with my fellow Al Fakhoora Scholars”. She concluded that the intensive training that was received by Al Fakhoora has dramatically improved her debate and listening skills as well as her self-esteem.
The “Dialogue Culture” conference discussed 13 academic research projects by various professors from local universities in Gaza, along with two main contributions from two Al Fakhoora Alumni speaking about their experience with Virtual Majles platform as an approach of cultural and sociological debate with the west.
